Who else has read this? Let’s keep the comments spoiler-free.Laurence van Cott Niven's best known work is Ringworld(Ringworld, #1) (1970), which received the Hugo, Locus, Ditmar, and Nebula awards. I believe thrillers are best enjoyed diving in without much background knowledge. The synopsis is more than enough to know what the book is about and I don’t want to sound repetitive. There’s not much I can say about the plot without spoiling it.

That just made me question all of their behaviors and statements. I also really enjoyed the other characters in here, especially since everyone is a suspect. Which is a relief, because if there was a stupid main character amidst all the chaos, I might’ve gone crazy enough to throw the book across the room. The main character in here is smart and resilient.

This book alternates between fast-paced thrills that have you feeling like it’s cardio day – okay, maybe like you just did a few jumping jacks – and moments of tense stillness that makes you want to hold your breath. Its done so well! Because even when I suspected certain outcomes, in some scenes there’s no way of knowing for sure how it’ll conclude.Īnd when I successfully guessed certain things, the delivery more than made up for it. (Fellow mystery/thriller enthusiasts, you know what I mean.) It gets easier to guess the twists and turns the endings become less shocking. So sometimes the story lines and villains can start to seem familiar. Now listen, I read a lot of thrillers, and on top of that I had read several before this one.
